Major Redevelopment to Make Shinagawa the New Face of Japan

  • Shinagawa Season Terrace completed

    Located on land made available by the reconstruction of the Shibaura Water Reclamation Center, this project will create an expansive green area extending 3.5 ha, in addition to a major office building.

  • JR Ueno-Tokyo Line opened

    The Ueno-Tokyo Line will connect Ueno and Tokyo stations.
    At the same time, reciprocal through-train service will begin between the Utsunomiya, Takasaki, and Tokaido lines, and service on the Joban Line will be extended to Shinagawa.

  • Metropolitan Expressway Central Circular Shinagawa Route scheduled to open

    The opening of the Central Circular Shinagawa Route will mark the birth of a new metropolitan circular route totaling 47 km in length.This will connect the Bayshore Route and the Route 3 Shibuya Line, without the need to drive through the city center.

  • Osaki area redevelopment scheduled for completion

    Redevelopment continues in the Osaki area.Today, progress continues on the Kita-Shinagawa 5-chome Block 1 Category I Redevelopment Project*2 and the Nishi Shinagawa 1-chome Redevelopment Project*3.

  • Special Zone for Asian Headquarters

    With its designation by the government as a special district, this zone is intended to attract more than 500 foreign-owned firms by 2016, and entice 50 or more of those companies to set up their Asian regional headquarters and R&D centers here. This will transform Shinagawa into a hub for international business.

  • Opening of new JR Yamanote Line station and development of area fronting the station

    A new station for the Yamanote and Keihin Tohoku lines to open between Tamachi and Shinagawa stations.At the same time, an area of about 13 ha in front of the station will be developed, with eight high-rises scheduled to be built by JR East.

  • Linear Chuo Shinkansen scheduled to open

    This superconducting maglev high-speed railway is scheduled to open in 2027. Ultimately, it will connect the three major urban centers of Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka in as little as 67 minutes.

  • Concept for new E runway at Haneda Airport

    The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism plans to construct a new runway at Haneda Airport, sometime in the 2030s. If completed, this will further facilitate international operations at Haneda Airport.
